Maybe this isn't exactly what you folks are looking for, but, having great success and feeling great about my recent bowel movements, I would highly recommend to anyone in our toilet sitting population that as quoted from the "Tao of Health, Sex, and Longevity" --->"Squatters do it better!"

and how!

I've been having some of the most glorious bowell movements of my life lately and I owe it all to squatting
Get gravity and alignment on your side and you'll turn a labor intensive 30 minute shit session into a glorious 2 minute movement

Yeah for squatting to shit! I am a believer! (a nasty splash or two is definitely outwieghed by the improvement in quality of life!)

for anyone who wanted to know

Good points, would also add specific yoga poses (ask a yoga teacher) and massage. As a massage therapist you can feel when people are constipated. Abdominal massage in a clockwise fashion can help move things along nicely.

When I am addressing any health concern, I personally like to use as natural a method as possible, so I always start with diet: foods and liquids. I find them to be much less invasive and taxing as some of the other options available. Diet and cleansing for me is all about communicating with my body, and finding the solution that resonates with me. I haven't found a magical cure all or universal truth that applies to all of us and our myriad of body types and states of health. I am not advising any of these options per se- Just sharing here what works for me based on my personal experience.

- water: it's amazing what some simple hydration can do. What works for me is drinking 1/2 oz per pound of body weight a day, and when cleansing doubling that amount so I drink at least 1 oz of water per pound of body weight. I find quality of water to be important, and use distilled or reverse osmosis water.
- ruffage: raw leafy green vegetables. Eat some everyday and yer bum will thank you. Saturating your salad with heaps of creamy salad dressing is a great way to eliminate all the benefits of eating salad- try substituting your regular dressing with some fresh lemon juice. Some greens, such as collards, can be steamed for 2-3 minutes.
- pear juice: 8- 16 oz in the morning. dilute 50/50 with water if the sugar is too much for you. So gentle, so effective.
- fresh young coconut: drink the juice and also eat the flesh. Delicious and productive.
-exercise! Sedentary lifestyle is an enemy of my colon.
-sugar: also not friends with my colon.

These next three options I have to be alone, in a comfortable environment, and real close to a toilet- not options I choose if I'm headed to work, for example.
- senna tea: Senna is a powerful plant. I drink half a cup of tea when I am on the verge of sleep.
- enemas are a lot less invasive than a colonic (1 quart of fluid vs. gallons) Use an enema bag and make the flush at home- tepid water, and here the quality of water is VERY important. Those prepackaged enemas available at the drug store have a bad rap.
- salt water flushes- 1 quart of tepid water and salt. Unfortunately, requires trial and error to discover the right amount of salt to produce results. Also hard to drink, generally brings a wicked bellyache, makes some people vomit....

Best of luck and happy pooping!

oh, as far as the tea...

ive had the best results drinking it in the evening and then having a good bowel movement in the morning. i think thats what it says on the directions.

one tip is to keep a food diary for a week to try and notice some patterns and/or over consumption of certain foods. its a real eye opener when you see what you eat all day written on paper.

then try giving something up for 10 days and see if it makes a difference. like cheese, for example, 10 days is pretty reasonable and if it doesnt make her feel any different then try something else ie wheat.

thanks jessica...
yes, i just told her to stop the fiber one, knowing she's not drinking enough. and i'm sure she was just "eating normally," which includes wheat and cheese...and i have mentioned to her before that the cheese (and also wheat) isn't really great for her since she doesn't pooh often anyway (meaning when she's not cleansing), but i will share with her about your sister. she'd rather eliminate wheat than cheese, but...

smooth move tea...i wondered if that might be a good idea. i'll share that with her.

and yes, i shared the same concerns about a colonic.

thanks again!

oh and colonics arent always the best thing while you are constipated, could push the problem up farther into your colon.

she could try some laxative herbal tea like smooth move or something like that.

she could also go see a naturopath if it is a cronic problem. its a pretty serious thing in myopinion and may need doctor assistance.

good luck!

as you already told her WATER is EXTREMELY important when adding a huge amount of fiber to your diet all at once. some people's body can't handle it. its best to add it slowly.

is she fasting? or eating normally?

could be a food allergy? my sister was chronically constipated and just found out she was allergic to wheat and she poops like crazy now. had a piece of pizza the other day and didnt poop for 3 days.

hello,
my sister emailed me and said she was on day 4 of her cleanse, which was a combination of three products she bought at the co-op...she hadn't poohed in some days before, and when she wrote was incredibly constipated, feeling sick, and not knowing what to do. i searched here for recommendations based on what she told me, and wrote back to her with what everyone had to say, including dropping the fiber plus thing she was taking, and i encouraged her to drop dairy (she's veg already but loves her cheese) and drink lots of water, drink herbal teas, eat mostly or all raw fruit and greens until it passes. here she is, a week later, having had little results but nothing significant and still feeling pregnant (not possible, incidentally)....

she's asking me if she should drop the cleanse she's on, get a colonic or what? any ideas?
